YOUNG GUNS COME CLOSE – THEN FADE!

October 15, 2019

AT ONE TIME ANDY DICKSON’S TROJANS 2 HAD THREE PLAYERS ON COURT WHO WERE UNDER 17 AS AMANDEEP SHERGILL WAS JOINED BY DEBUTING BROTHERS SAM AND OLLIE DUCKERS (NOT PICTURED!!!), AND WITH A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD IN THE RUGBY RAGE RANKS IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE YOUNGEST GROUP OF PLAYERS IN A DIVISION ONE MATCH FOR MANY A YEAR.

AND IT WAS FORMER TROJANS DAVE MARTIN’S YOUNG SON CALUM WHO STARRED FOR RAGE WITH 22 POINTS AS THEY EASED AWAY, THWARTING SEVERAL TROJANS’ COME-BACKS BEFORE WINNING 76-64.

TROJANS WERE WITHOUT TOP SCORERS EGIS BALIUNAS AND BHUWAN LIMBU, HENCE THE DUCKLINGS’ DEBUTS (DAD TIM WAS LOOKING ON AFTER TRAINING) AND HE MUST HAVE BEEN THRILLED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF BOTH BOYS AS TROJANS FOUGHT TO RECOVER FROM GOING BEHIND AFTER A GOOD EARLY SHOWING. THE NEAREST THEY CAME WAS IN THE FINAL QUARTER WHEN THEY WERE 56-53 DOWN, BUT THE MORE EXPERIENCED RUGBY SQUAD, LED BY GUNTARS TRABLIKS AND DAD MARTIN TOOK CONTROL OF THE FINAL MINUTES TO CLINCH VICTORY.

BEN LINNETT WAS IN FINE FORM TO LAND SIX TRIPLES IN HIS 22 POINT TOTAL AND DEEPS SHERGILL ADDED 12 TO GET HIS TROJANS CAREERĀ  GOING. NOW IT’S ROLL ON THE NEXT GAME WHEN HOPEFULLY THEY CAN GET THE ELUSIVE WIN.
