THREES SO CLOSE TO WIN!
November 10, 2021
THE FIRST TIME TROJANS HAD PLAYED GRIZZLIES SINCE THE PASSING OF THEIR COACH IAN A’KEMPIS SAW THE TWO LOCK HORNS IN KENILWORTH’S MEADOWSIDE SPORTS CENTRE, BUT THEHOME SIDE EDGED IT IN THE DYING MOMENTS TO WIN 52-49.
TROJANS ALSO LOST DAVID SANCHEZ (PICTURED) WHO IS PLAGUED BY INJURY PROBLEMS, AS THE BALL-HANDLING THREE-POINT SHOOTER SUFFERED A DOUBLE DISLOCATION TO HIS FINGER JUST TWO MINUTES IN AND ENDED UP AT WARWICK HOSPITAL UNTIL 1 AM. THIS FOLLOWS HIS RETURN TO ACTION LAST WEEK AFTER BREAKING A RIB AT HEREWARD COLLEGE.
HE WAS SORELY MISSED BUT GAMELY, TROJANS SOLDIERED ON WITH IAIN MAXWELL LEADING THE WAY AS THEY STAYED IN THE HUNT THROUGH THE HALF-TIME BREAK WHEN GRIZZLIES LED 26-25.
IT WAS OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE A CLOSE ONE, AND TROJANS WERE FIVE UP WITH FIVE MINUTES LEFT, BUT THEN THE HOME SIDE FOUND THEIR FORM AND MOVED THREE CLEAR. TROJANS WENT TO THE LINE TWICE IN THE LAST MINUTE BUT MATTY NOVELSKAS AND CLIVE BENT FAILED TO DISTURB THE NET AND IT WAS BACK TO COVENTRY WITH LITTLE TO CELEBRATE. CLEARLY FREE-SHOOTING WAS A PROBLEM AS TROJANS BANKED JUST 7 FROM 21 ON THE NIGHT!
MAXWELL LED ON 19 WITH TREVOR ROBNSON RETURNING 12
