FIRSTS FIRST – SECONDS SECOND!

November 24, 2021

IT WAS A NIGHT OF MIXED FORTUNES FOR THE CLUB’S TWO SENIOR SIDES IN DIVISION ONE AS THE FIRST TEAM CAME FROM BEHIND TO PULL OFF A 61-49 VICTORY AT AYLESFORD WHILE THE SECONDS WERE MAULED BY ARDEN GRIFFINS AT HEREWARD COLLEGE.

UNBEATEN IN FOUR NOW, THE FIRST TEAM WELCOMED BACK ASH DICKSON FROM A KNEE PROBLEM WHICH HAS SIDELINED HIM SINCE THE OPENING WEEK AND HIS PRESENCE SEEMED TO BOOST THE VISITING SIDE AT MORETON MORRELL WHO RACED INTO AN 8-0 LEAD. BUT HAWKS RESPONDED AFTER A TIME-OUT TO HEAD TROJANS 34-26 AT HALF TIME.

WHAT CAME NEXT SHOCKED EVERYONE AS TILE HILL COMPLETELY DESTROYED THEIR HOSTS EITHER SIDE OF THE THIRD QUARTER BREAK AS THEY HURTLED FROM 33-40 DOWN TO A 55-44 MATCH-WINNING ADVANTAGE WITH TREVOR ROBINSON HITTING FOUR ON THE BOUNCE TO END WITH 11 POINTS. DOMINIK GORGOL LED TROJANS WITH 13, RICHARD ONIONS ALSO MADE 11 AND MARK LARNER 10 AS THEY EYED UP THEIR NEXT FIXTURE – AWAY AT ARDEN!

GRIFFINS MADE HAY AT HEREWARD AS THEY ROMPED TO A 105-54 WIN WITH TROPHY-WINNER PAUL ROBERTS LANDING NINE THREE-POINTERS AND THE TEAM FOURTEEN IN A CLEANLY-CONTESTED MATCH WHERE THEY WERE ALWAYS GOING TO COME OUT ON TOP. THE THIRD QUARTER WAS PARTICULARLY PAINFUL FOR TROJANS AS THEY WERE CAUGHT TIME AND TIME AGAIN BY THE ARDEN FAST-BREAK AND A 15-34 SCORELINE TELLS ITS OWN TALE.

THE HOME SIDE TRIED THEIR BEST BUT WERE NO MATCH FOR THE CURRENT LEAGUE CHAMPIONS FOR WHOM ROBERTS FINISHED WITH A 31 POINT HAUL WITH SAM WORKMAN ON 25 AND LUKE HATFIELD 20 AS EGIS BALIUNAS TOPPED FOR TROJANS WITH 15.
