FLAMES BURN TWOS IN FINAL MINUTES.
January 15, 2022
TOO MANY TURNOVERS IN THE FINAL QUARTER COST TROJANS 2 DEARLY AS THEY SLIPPED TO A NARROW DEFEAT 38-43 AGAINST COVENTRY UNIVERSITY FLAMES.
IN CONTENTION THROUGHOUT THE CLUB’S SECOND TEAM GAVE THEIR ALL IN AN EXCITING GAME, PLAYED AT FRENETIC PACE AS THE TWO BATTLED FOR SUPREMACY. BUT, DESPITE TRAILING 24-18 AT HALF-TIME IN A LOW-SCORING CONTEST, TROJANS COULD NOT CASH IN AS THEY CLAWED THEIR WAY BACK, COMING TO WITHIN ONE WITH UNDER TWO MINUTES REMAINING.
MATTĀ BARR HAD SHOTS TO PUT HIS SIDE AHEAD, BUT AS THE RING REJECTED THEM BOTH THE STUDENTS RUBBED SALT IN THE WOUND BY SINKING A TRIPLE AT THE OTHER END TO SINK THE “VISITORS” AT HEREWARD.
BOTH SIDES DESERVE CREDIT FOR FIGHTING DISPLAYS, BUT IT WAS A WEARY FLAMES SIDE WHO BURNED BRIGHTEST WHEN IT MATTERED.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE CONTEST WAS THE NON-STOP STAMINA-SAPPING EFFORTS FROM TROJANS’ BHUWAN LIMBU (PICTURED) AND FLAMES’ CAPTAIN LUIS ROMERO WHO FOUGHT TO THE END.
