INJURY-HIT 2 CLAWED BY HAWKS!

November 2, 2021

THREE KEY PLAYERS WERE MISSING AS TROJANS 2 TRIED GAMELY TO STOP FLYING AYLESFORD HAWKS BEFORE FALLING IN THE LATTER STAGES TO GO DOWN 48-68.

WITH TOM LUMLEY, AUDI GUDLEIKIS AND MATT BARR ALL ABSENT COACH ANDY DICKSON’S OPTIONS WERE LIMITED AS HIS SIDE HOSTED HAWKS, AND IT SHOWED AS THE VISITORS TO HEREWARD COLLEGE TOOK FLIGHT AND PLAYED SOME LOVELY PASSING OFFENSES BEFORE NOSINGĀ  INTO THE SECOND QUARTER 13-12 AHEAD. HAWKS WERE JUST A LITTLE TOO ORGANISED AND HAD STRENGTH ON THEIR BENCH WITH JIM MARTIN ROTATING HIS PLAYERS CONSTANTLY AS THEY EDGED TO HALF-TIME LEADING 35-27.

TROJANS WERE GETTING LITTLE INSIDE WITH ONLY EGIS BALIUNAS PROVIDING HEIGHT, BUT HE WAS HAVING TO COME OUT TO GET THE BALL NEGATING HIS EFFECTIVENESS.

TROJANS WERE STILL IN WITH A SHOT AS THE FINAL PERIOD BEGAN AT 41-50, BUT A FLURRY OF ACTIVITY AROUND THE HOME SIDE’S HOOP SAW A 10-0 BURST IN FAVOUR OF HAWKS END THE CONTEST. TROJANS HAD NOTHING LEFT TO OFFER DESPITE THE HARD-WORK OF BHUWAN LIMBU AND BABS GURUNG, AND HAWKS CLOSED IN POSSESSION OF THE BALL AS THE CLOCK RAN OUT AT THE END.

LIMBU LED TROJANS WITH 15 AS SAM ROGERS WENT THREE BETTER FOR HAWKS.

FOOTNOTE: AN AMUSING START TO THE FINAL QUARTER SAW BOTH TEAMS ATTACKING THE WRONG ENDS. FORTUNATELY THE ERROR WAS CORRECTED BEFORE EITHER SIDE HAD SCORED OR COMMITTED ANY FOULS!
