MARK’S SMASHING TIME AT AGM!
June 27, 2022
WARWICKSHIRE BASKETBALL’S TOP SCORER MARK LARNER HAD A SMASHING TIME AT THE LEAGUE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ON 23RD JUNE AFTER HAVING BEEN PRESENTED WITH HIS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD.
BEING ASKED TO HOLD UP THE TROPHY FOR PHOTOGRAPHS THE ACRYLIC SHIELD FELL FROM THE PRESENTATION BOX AND SAMSHED ONTO THE FLOOR WITH A CLATTER.
FORTUNATELY THE BROKEN BITS WERE PIECED TOGETHER SO HE COULD COMPLETE THE PHOTO SHOOT WHERE MARK, ALONG WITH TREVOR ROBINSON PROUDLY DISPLAYED THEIR ON-COURT REWARDS. TREVOR WAS THE LEADING FREE-SHOOTING PERFORMER IN DIVISION TWO WHILE MARK’S TROPHY WAS FOR TOP SCORER IN THE FIRST DIVISION.
LONG-SERVING STALWART PHIL JOHN WAS ALSO RECOGNISED BY WARWICKSHIRE BASKETBALL, AS HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME AFTER GIVING NEAR FIFTY-YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE SPORT IN OUR AREA.
CLUB SECRETARY AND FELLOW HALL OF FAMER MIKE MADDOX, WHO NOMINATED HIM SAID, “PHIL CAME INTO THE GAME BACK IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES WHEN BASKETBALL WAS GROWING RAPIDLY AND I HAD THE PLEASURE OF DEALING WITH HIM AS ONE-TIME CLUB TREASURER AND COMMITTEE MEMBER, AREA AND LEAGUE TREASURER AND LATTERLY OFFICIATING OFFICER. IT IS WELL DESERVED FOR THE COMMITMENT HE HAS GIVEN OVER SOME FIVE DECADES.”
FOOTNOTE: A REPLACEMENT TROPHY IS ON ORDER FOR MARK!
