TROJANS FALL SHORT OF TON IN FINAL GAME!

TROJANS FALL SHORT OF TON IN FINAL GAME!

March 28, 2023

Trojans 1 just missed out on their second “ton” of the season as they turned in an almost identical result to their earlier encounter with Warwick China Red when the two met at Hereward College in the final game of the season.

Back in November it was 101-53 in favour of the reds, but this time, the score was 96-56 as the home side completed their season with just three defeats – all against the champions Arden Griffins.

So, a season which promised so much ended with victory, but it was hollow, as it could have been much more as the Trojans’ trophy cabinet remains locked with nothing to add and shelves which are gathering dust.

However, there have been some good performances and the game with Warwick was one such fixture, which was always going to end with a home win as skill, height and experience were prevalent, even in the warm-up.

trojans raced into a 23-2 lead as the students struggled to find the target, and had little hope of stopping the surging board-work of Enoch Kolawole – surely the find of the season. he was at times a little over optimistic with his shooting, forcing from almost impossible positions, whereas the silky smooth play of Mark Larner and Ash Dickson provided a plethora of assists for their team-mates AND bagging a few for themselves into the bargain.

it was a farewell game for Chris Janes who is moving to Loughborough later this year and he showed what a talent he has to offer with another good show both on the floor and in the air.

from that early start, Trojans eased somewhat as their opposition tried gamely to fight back, and either side of half-time they downed a few three-pointers to add to their tally as the home side gushed with the confidence of knowing that their last game was going to be a comfortable one.

as the seven-man visiting squad tired, trojans began to run their fast-break to good effect and the forty point gap at the end, probably signalled the gulf between the pair and summed up the season for Tile Hill – so near yet so far!
