TWO DOWN AND ONE WIN ENDS THE FIRST WEEK

October 6, 2022

DEFEAT FOR TROJANS 3 AGAINST JM GRIZZLIES BROUGHT THE CURTAIN DOWN ON WEEK ONE OF THE NEW SEASON OF WARWICKSHIRE BASKETBALL.

FOLLOWING THE LOSS INCURRED BY TH2 ON MONDAY, THE FIRST TEAM TRAVELLED TO TAMWORTH AND A VERY DEPLETED SIDE MANAGED TO SCRAPE A FOUR POINT VICTORY, BUT TH3, DESPITE LEADING EARLY ON, FELL TO GRIZZLIES 39-50 WITH AN ERROR-STREWN PERFORMANCE.

GRIZZLIES HAVE NOT TRAINED SINCE LAST APRIL AND THEY LOOKED OUT OF SORTS IN THE OPENING EXCHANGES AS TGROJANS TOOK THE FIRST QUARTER.

BUT THE WARWICK SIDE RALLIED TO MOVE AHEAD JUST BEFORE HALF TIME WHEN THEY LED 24-23 AND, AS TROJANS FLOUNDERED THE HEREWARD COLLEGE VISITORS TOOK FULL ADVANTAGE TO PUSH AHEAD TO 43-32 AND SEAL THE POINTS TO THE DELIGHT OF THE TRAVELLING BAND OF PLAYERS AND SUPPORTERS.

DAN VALNETE HEADED GRIZZLIES’ LIST ON 11 WITH GARETH LANGMAN POWERING THROUGH TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO LAND 10, WHILE VETERAN CLIVE BENT (PICTURED) WAS THE ONLY TROJAN IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS HE MADE 12.
